The Vault began with Anton Ashcroft (vocals, guitar), from Liverpool, England, and Eric Williamson (drums), a native of Maryland, USA. In mid-2004, a mutual friend invited Billy to a show and introduced him to the band. Soon after, he joined on lead guitar. At the same time, the bassist quit, so Billy played bass instead of lead on some songs initially. The band was made whole again in late 2004 with the addition of Justin Chapman on bass.

The band recorded its first EP on October 25, 2004, with producer Mike Scarinzi at The Bridge Studio in Baltimore, Maryland. The recording was analog, saved on tape, not a hard drive, and done with the whole band playing for the first take, and certain parts being overdubbed in one or two additional takes.

The next group of songs was recorded digitally during July 2005; however, as Billy was traveling at the time, he did not play guitar on the recording, so the recording is not included on this site. Finally, just before Anton moved back to England during February 2006, the band recorded initial drum, rhythm guitar, and vocal tracks for over 10 additional songs. Unfortunately, due to various moves and other life events, the recordings were never completed. That said, if the situation changes, we’ll upload any completed mixes or new recordings for you and update this page.

The Vault played at various locations in the Maryland, D.C., and Northern Virginia region, including The Vault Club and the Brass Monkey in Baltimore, MD; the Kaos Grill in Towson, MD; the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA; the Nation in Washington, D.C.; and various private venues in Clarksville, Highland, and Ellicott City, MD. Currently, no future shows are anticipated.
