About

Billy Currano is a musician, editor, and linguist currently based in Okayama, Japan. He has primarily played and composed music for 8-string classical and 7- and 8-string electric guitar since his first few years playing guitar. In addition to guitar, he fiddles with 6-string bass, piano/keyboard, and drums for simple enjoyment and additional songwriting.

A former Henry Bean Classics Scholar, Billy studied Latin for 8 years and ancient Greek for 6, and speaks German well enough to admit it and Japanese well enough to get around. He has also taken classes in Swedish, French, and Spanish, and can read most Germanic and Romance languages at a basic level.

Overall, Billy has traveled to about a dozen different countries, having received the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship award to spend a year in Europe to observe and interview melodic metal bands primarily from Scandinavia and Germany.

After over a decade in financial publishing, Billy is now working on two major musical endeavors: First, recording his large catalogue of musical compositions, and second, creating a new series of video guitar lessons balancing the convenience and affordability of online lessons with the depth and structure of live, face-to-face instruction.

While there are many “free” lessons available online today, most prioritize clickbait, advertising, and upselling over both education and organization. Billy hopes to solve this dilemma for students by providing an alternative that minimizes distractions and maximizes learning efficiency at the lowest cost possible.
